Project Management

As a member of a small team at a national literary magazine, my role went beyond editorial. From hiring and managing a team of interns to coordinating production of the print magazine, from scheduling and posting daily content online to updating the website and liaising with the development team, and from organizing readings and public events to planning and executing industry conference appearances, my work was a continuous stream of ongoing, overlapping projects.

Production Coordination

As a production coordinator at Tin House magazine, I acted as liaison between editors, contributors, designers, printers, and distributors to make sure the team met each deadline in the production of a quarterly print literary magazine.

Team Management

As the editor in charge of unsolicited submissions, I hired and managed a rotating crew of four interns and dozens of volunteers to read and review over 10,000 manuscripts annually, ultimately submitting a select few to the rest of the editorial board. My team of interns would then help to edit and publish the work we accepted.

Online Publishing

In addition to print editorial duties, I curated and edited the weekly original flash fiction series Flash Fridays, as well as conceiving and executing other original series, soliciting topical content, and posting and promoting online versions of print magazine content. As the direct contact between a freelance web developer and the rest of the staff, I learned the necessary ins and outs of WordPress in order to keep the site updated and cost-efficient.

Event Organization

In support of the Director of the Tin House Workshops, I assisted in the planning and day-to-day operation of a week-long workshop in Portland, OR with 200+ attendees and 20+ faculty, and three smaller four-day workshops in Newport, Oregon. I arranged travel and logistics for Tin House magazine appearances at national conferences, and arranged offsite events such as readings and private or public parties.
