Editorial

As an editor at the literary magazine Tin House, I had the opportunity to work closely with writers to edit nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. Often this meant working with my own literary idols, but my specialty was in discovering and cultivating “New Voices.” In fact, many of the writers I worked with had never worked with a professional editor before, which allowed for a free and equitable creative relationship. Many of the stories and essays that I edited won prestigious literary awards such as the Pushcart Prize, or were anthologized in series such as the Best American Stories or Essays. Accolades aside, helping a writer find and perfect their story—in their voice—was always purely fulfilling.
